Fall
Taste of Baker
first saturday in October
Baker slows down a bit in the Fall, inviting you to take in the changing leaves, the first dustings of snow on the mountaintops, and the perfect weather for every activity.
Every month you can explore the First Friday art walk every first Friday of the month and the Third Thursday wine walk every third Thursday throughout the fall.
Step into fall by staying downtown the second weekend in September. You’ll discover the Metric Moto vintage dirt bike show at Barley Brown’s and take a scenic drive to the tiniest little festival in the tiniest little town at Pine Fest Music Festival in Halfway. Geiser Pollman Park fills with dancers and dance enthusiasts of all ages the third Saturday of September for Day of Dance, a free celebration of dance organized by Crossroads Carnegie Art Center.
October starts with a bang with the biggest event in downtown Baker City, the annual Taste of Baker where folks exchange tokens for samples of local food, drink, and delights! Enjoy the fall scenery on the Fall Foliage Train Rides in Sumpter before getting your frights at the Churchill Haunted Studios most weekends in October. Raise money for charity and watch pumpkins drop from a helicopter at the annual Pumpkin Chunkin the third Saturday of October. Take your haunts to the National Historic Oregon Trail Interpretive Center for their Haunting on the Hill the weekend before Halloween. Downtown Trick or Treating invites costumed kiddos to get tasty treats on Halloween!
Get your holiday shopping done in November in downtown Baker City! Raise funds to beat hunger Thanksgiving morning with the annual Turkey Trot fun run and walk event. Then skip the big box stores and shop Small Business Saturday and Artist’s Sunday all weekend. This weekend is the kickoff for Baker Business Bingo too, a fun scavenger hunt that rewards you for shopping local throughout the holiday season.
Summer

Downtown is in bloom from Memorial Day through Labor Day with colorful flower baskets down Main Street inviting you to dine outside at our delicious restaurants, stroll through our stunning shops, and enjoy the best that Eastern Oregon has to offer.
Every month you can enjoy the First Friday art walk every first Friday of the month and the Third Thursday wine walk every third Thursday throughout the summer. Plus you can pick up fresh produce and other goodies at the Baker City Farmers Market every Saturday throughout the summer.
Kickoff the summer season with a stay downtown and a day trip into Sumpter during Memorial Day weekend for their annual flea market. Stroll through downtown to see window displays of all our Baker Bulldog graduates and celebrate Oregon Trail Days in Geiser Pollman Park the first weekend in June. The party never ends at Barley Brown’s Anniversary Party, held every year the second weekend in June, featuring live music, great food, and lots of beer from here. Grab a seat curbside for the Baker City Cycling Classic racing downtown the third weekend in June.
Fourth of July is best celebrated at the rodeo in Haines, staying in downtown Baker City to enjoy the night life. The second weekend in July, the Baker City Motorcycle Rally rolls into downtown. Baker County’s summertime celebration, Miners’ Jubilee, hosts a parade down Main Street every third weekend in July. It’s East side versus West side the fourth weekend of July, with the graduating high school seniors from across the state playing football to raise money for the Shriner’s hospital in Portland.
The fair comes to Baker the first full week of August at the County Fairgrounds just a few blocks from downtown. The Memory Cruise brings all the best hot rods, rat rods, and smooth rides down Main Street on their way to the Durkee Steak Feed at the Quail Ridge Golf Course the third weekend in August. Wind down with Quailfest music festival at Quail Ridge Golf course the last weekend in August. Then wrap up the summer season during Labor Day weekend with a stay downtown, enjoying the outside dining options, and shop the Sumpter Flea Market just a short, gorgeous drive away.
Spring

Spring means blossoming trees and blooming tulips throughout Baker, with grasses and crops every shade of technicolor green. Folks itch to get out and about as the days start to get longer and enjoy every minute of sunshine outside.

Baker is proud to host the 1A state basketball tournament every year in early March, inviting the whole state to celebrate youth sports in Eastern Oregon. Anthony Lakes ends the snow sports season with a tasty sendoff with their Taste of Nordic held the third Sunday of March. Typically this falls around Spring Break too for the kiddos, which is also the opening day for many local museums throughout the county.
April and May see more and more folks travelling to downtown, with premier outdoor recreation opportunities opening up as the snow melts, the rivers run, and morel mushrooms spring up in the mountains. This is one of the best times to visit Baker if you’re an explorer who delights in a downtown basecamp for every adventure.

Celebrate the reason for the season in the most charming, Hallmark-esque downtown setting in Eastern Oregon. Shop for Christmas gifts, toast to the New Year, and celebrate friends and family at local shops and restaurants, with twinkling lights shining through the long nights.
Every month you can enjoy the First Friday art walk every first Friday of the month. Crossroads Carnegie Art Center brings locally-made Christmas ornaments of all shapes and styles in their gift shop to decorate your tree, as do many of our local shops!
Twinkle in Time is a weekend-long suite of events and activities to launch the beginning of the holiday season held the first weekend of December every year. Jam-packed full of events and activities for the whole family, don’t miss the 4-H Christmas Bazaar, Pictures and Letters with Santa, make-and-take holiday activities, Cookie Crawl, Twilight Jubilee downtown parade and tree lighting, and three full days of Festival of Trees festivities!
January and February are quieter months downtown for events, but full of premier shopping and dining opportunities. If you’re looking for an intimate experience, plan a visit downtown in the new year!
